Football practice: weekend wrapup

After N.C. State’s first full weekend of summer practice, players are busy getting in shape, in preparation for the Wolfpack’s season opener on Aug 28 at South Carolina.

Defensive lineman Alan Michael-Cash spoke about that preparation for the Gamecocks, as well as assessing the experience of the defensive line.

On the experience the line brings back this year, with players such as himself, defensive ends Willie Young and Markus Kuhn and fellow lineman Antoine Holmes:

“Right now, we’ve got a lot of guys who have had a lot of playing time. We have a lot of pretty experienced players that are really trying to anchor the defense up front. Our job is to teach the young guys and trying to be good leaders in every way.”

On preparations for South Carolina:

“During the offseason, [the defensive linemen] all got together as a group, once a week, every week on Wednesdays and watched film of South Carolina. Now we’re focused on practice and working as an entire team to prepare for the game.”

On young defensive linemen that could make a big impact this year:

Leroy Burgess is a transfer who has been great in practice and should do really well and [redshirt sophomore] Audi Augustin had a really good offseason and I think he’ll have a big year.
