Anemic offense gets a boost….against Florida Atlantic

The men’s soccer team (3-5-1) had its best outing of the season on Wednesday afternoon, scoring a season-high five goals. The problem? The team they beat, Florida Atlantic, has a record of 2-9.

N.C. State also beat VMI this year with an uninspired performance against a winless team.
The one impressive win this season came against No. 13 Boston College. The game was all but won by captain Ronnie Bouemboue, who had the only shots-on-goal and netted both goals to secure the 2-0 win for the Wolfpack.

State attempts 14.3 shots-per-game yet only manages 1.56 goals. That’s a shot percentage of 10%.

Take away the Florida Atlantic game and those numbers look a lot worse. The Pack doesn’t have a problem shooting; it has a problem finishing.

State is 1-2 in the ACC, and it’s already halfway through the 2008 season. It has finished last in the conference the past two seasons. If the Pack doesn’t get it together soon, history will repeat itself.
