Day 4: ACC Final

Rivers willing Tigers back into contention

Clemson guard K.C. Rivers, who now has 28 points, has been on a tear in recent minutes, and his 3-point shooting has propelled the Tigers back into a chance at winning a game that looked over just minutes ago when it was 72-59. But even so, Clemson needs a lot more stops to win this game.

Clemson coming undone

Clemson hasn’t played in the ACC championship game since 1962, and the current Tigers players have never been in a game this big. And it’s starting to show. Carolina is scoring almost at will, and Clemson has been making worse and worse passes as the game has gone on.
If the Tigers can’t get it together soon and begin stopping the Heels’ fastbreak, this game could get really ugly really fast.

Press continues to fluster Carolina

Even though UNC often can get by Clemson’s press, it is speeding up the Heels so much that even when they break it, they often throw the ball out of bounds or to a Clemson player. They have to adjust, or the Tigers will ride their pressure all the way to an ACC title.

Sloppiness reigns

Despite consistent turnovers by Carolina against Clemson’s full-court press, the Tigers haven’t been able to take full advantage because of numerous sloppy passes and bad shots of their own.

Clemson on pace for 100
Updated 1:31 p.m.
Right before the 10-minute mark of the first half, Clemson got a 3-pointer from guard K.C. Rivers to take a 25-21 lead, putting it on pace for 100 points in this game. The Tigers may have struggled early on the press, but recently they have gotten a couple steals. There is little doubt if Clemson can keep the heat on the Heels. The Tigers just have to keep up the press and hope UNC’s shooters start missing more shots.

Heels, Tigers run, run, run

It shouldn’t come as any surprise, but the first few minutes of this game have been almost like a track meet. Clemson can press effectively and score on the break, but so far it hasn’t been able to slow down UNC’s fastbreak. It may have to scale back its press a slight bit or be better disciplined in it so the Heels don’t keep getting easy baskets.
