N.C. State downed by Duke

By Samuel T.O. Branch on September 28th, 2008

The women’s soccer opening ACC match didn’t turn out like the players wanted. No. 10 Duke defeated State handily 3-0 in Durham. Most of the game was played in the Pack’s end, and the Blue Devils capitalized on the opportunities that it had. But worse than the defeat was the loss of sophomore Nadia Aboulhosn. After contesting a ball with the Blue Devil goalkeeper, she injured her leg and had to be carried off the field. Aboulhosn was in visible pain for the rest of the match on the bench, and obviously did not play. The team was already hurting because of the injuries to second leading scorer Kara Baldy and others. But the Pack will try to put everything behind as it goes to Virginia on Thursday.

Tough losses so far…

By Daniel Ellis on September 27th, 2008

The Wolfpack, while not losing hope, are losing something just as valuable - players.  With Julian Williams, Justin Byers, and Ray Michel both leaving the field after being hurt, the team may face long-term problems rather than just a single blemish on their overall record.

The team can’t afford to suffer any more losses to their already depleted lineup.

Stadium virtually deserted

By Daniel Ellis on September 27th, 2008

With a deluge of rain coming down into Carter-Finley and the Wolfpack down 31-10, many fans have opted to head for the exits.

From personal experience, this is the most deserted I’ve ever seen the stadium during a game. Only the loyal fans remain, with the biggest congregation along the bottom of the student section.
